The Phlebotomy Technician course is designed to prepare students for a career as a phlebotomist. Students will learn the role and importance of phlebotomy in a healthcare setting along with developing venipuncture and critical thinking skills required in obtaining patient samples. Students will develop an understanding of how accurate samples are crucial to diagnose diseases and monitor patient progress.

Phlebotomy 101 – Introduction to Phlebotomy 

This course focuses on students with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in their role as an integral part of the healthcare team. Students will explore various topics addressing the crucial role of a Phlebotomy Technician. Students will learn how to collaborate with other healthcare professionals, emphasis will be placed on professionalism, maintaining ethical conduct and HIPPA. Students will learn medical terminology, CLIA, Infection control and prevention measures, OSHA, and SDS (Safety Data Sheets).

Phlebotomy 201 – Advanced Phlebotomy

This course provides an in-depth exploration of the intricacies of phlebotomy techniques and procedures. Students will expand their knowledge of the human body, with a comprehensive overview of anatomical structures and systems. The circulatory system will be studied in detail, focusing on its role in specimen collection. Students will learn advanced techniques for preparing specimen collection, including patient preparation, equipment selection, and proper handling. Students will learn collection specimens through venipuncture, capillary puncture, and nonblood specimens such as urine, stool, and swabbing procedures.  

Phlebotomy Lab

This course is hands–on training in a laboratory setting designed to provide students with necessary skills needed in phlebotomy. Students will learn proper blood collection techniques, specimen handling, and equipment utilization, gaining the necessary proficiency to excel in the field of phlebotomy.
